Endurion's Windows Version Mod |
|
This Critic's Choice mod was developed by Georg Rottensteiner and submitted as part of the The Dobbs First Month Challenge. Georg explains: "I've modified a lot of code so it resembles my usual game framework. This helps me in getting things done more easily as I know exactly where to modify. The main loop has been modified to make things run smoother. This has an impact on the processor usage, but it is a game after all! The scrolling is a first try on making bigger levels, but before I tackle really big worlds I'd like to make the tiles not be sprites. That needs more modification on the whole game; a lot of collision detection is relying on all the entities being around. The editor was a needed add-on for me: while text based levels are nice for casual editing, in the long run an ingame editor is better; you see exactly what you're doing and what's it going to look like. And it lets me create new stages faster! The provided graphics are very nice; but that makes it kinda hard to add new stuff that matches the style. I cheated a bit; painted new tiles in twice the resolution and simply scaled them down. This seems to work most of the time. I've been using DrPetters sfxr sound tool for additional sound effects. It's an awesome tool that lets you create random 8-bit style sound effects and play with the parameters. Highly recommended." |
